General Information

Courses are offered for a 2 hours and 5 minutes daily block of time

General Image of Summit TechSummit Technology Academy offers specialty career-related programs with emphasis on work-based learning and industry mentors. Each course program emphasizes the essential concepts of a college-preparatory curriculum by encouraging students to apply academic content and skills to real-world problems and projects. Teachers work collaboratively to make connections between disciplines.

Centers of Excellence

All courses are designated as a Center of Excellence as designated by the Career Education Consortium. Acceptance into a Center of Excellence program requires a student to have a minimum 2.0 GPA and a 90% or better attendance rate. Students interested should contact their counselor for an application.

Project Lead the Way

Project Lead the Way LogoProject Lead the Way is a nationally recognized engineering and biomedical curriculum being offered in numerous school districts across the country. The introductory courses are offered at many of the sending schools. For example, Introduction to Engineering & Design, (IED) Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA), and Principles of Engineering (POE), are introductory engineering courses. Students can advance these studies through PLTW capstone courses, such as Digital Electronics, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Design and Development offered at Summit Technology Academy. In addition, Principles of Biomedical Sciences and Human Anatomy & Physiology/Human Body Systems are introductory biomedical courses offered at several area high schools. Students can advance their biomedical studies through PLTW capstone courses, such as Medical Interventions and Biomedical Innovations offered at Summit Technology Academy.

College Credit/Certifications

Students can earn up to three units of high school credit per year, and most of the programs offer college credit through University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri Kansas City, Missouri University of Science and Technology Metropolitan Community Colleges. Students can earn industry certifications such as CompTia, Cisco, NOCTI, and CNA.

SkillsUSA LogoStudents have the opportunity to join SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit student organization that serves students enrolled in career and technical education training programs at our nation’s public high schools and colleges. SkillsUSA’s mission is to empower its members to become world class workers and responsible American citizens. SkillsUSA complements technical skills training with instruction in the employability skills that make a well-rounded worker and citizen. Digital Electronics

This is a course in applied logic that gives students the opportunity to learn how computers/logic circuits think and control the world around us.

Computer Integrated Manufacuring

The course is built around several key concepts: Computer Modeling-using a three dimensional, solid modeling software package with mass property analysis. CNC Equipment-understanding the machine tools and its operating and programming aspects.

Engineering Design and Development

Students apply principles developed in the four preceding courses, learn advanced physics applications, and are guided by an engineering mentor.

Digital Media Technology

Students will focus on audio production technologies including sound generation, studio recording and live sound reinforcement. They will work in teams to integrate music, graphics and video technologies in entrepreneurial projects for their schools and/or communities.

IT Essentials

This course prepares students for careers as network technicians, as well as, help desk and customer service positions. It provides a basic overview of routing, remote access, addressing, monitoring, security, and troubleshooting.

Networking Essentials

This course familiarizes students with the equipment, applications, protocols, and design principles in enterprise networks. This course focuses on switched networks, IP telephony requirements, and security and introduces advanced protocols.

Network Security

This course teaches students the skills needed to obtain entry-level security specialist jobs. It provides a hands-on introduction to network security.

Summit International Studies Academy

Students will work with industry-standard technology and train members of the community in world cultures. SISA is a long-term corporate simulation, which means that the classroom is run like a business environment as students become active intercultural consultants within the community.

Medical Intervention/
Biomedical Innovation

The course is a “How-To” manual for maintaining overall health and homeostasis in the body as students explore how to prevent and fight infection, how to screen and evaluate the code in human DNA, how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and how to prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail.

Pre-Professional Nursing

Students will learn through classroom instruction and practice in a clinical skills lab. Major units of study include nursing history and career exploration, pharmaceutical math, CPR/First Aid, nursing skills, and medical terminology.

Students will be engaged in hands-on skills lab work and projects related to Dental Assisting; Health Information Technology; Occupational Therapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant; Paramedic/EMT; Physical Therapy/Physical Therapy Assistant; Radio-logic Technology and Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology.

Pre-Professional Education Cadet

Each student is assigned to a district school within the high school attendance boundaries. Cadets keep daily logs, weekly journals, prepare and present a lesson(s) and work closely with students of the assigned supervising teacher.
