Medical Intervention/Biomedical Innovation
Medical Interventions™ Students investigate the variety of interventions involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease as they follow the lives of a fictitious family. The course is a “How-To” manual for maintaining overall health and homeostasis in the body as students explore how to prevent and fight infection, how to screen and evaluate the code in human DNA, how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, and how to prevail when the organs of the body begin to fail. Students are exposed to the wide range of interventions related to immunology, surgery, genetics, pharmacology, medical devices, and diagnostics.
Biomedical Innovation™ In this capstone course students design and conduct experiments related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease or illness. They apply their knowledge and skills to solve problems related to Bio-Medical science. They may work with a mentor or advisor from a university, hospital, physician’s office, or industry as they complete their work. Students are expected to present the results of their work to an adult audience, which may include representatives from the local healthcare or business community, or partnership team.

This course helped me know if I really wanted to go into a medical field. I enjoyed job shadowing the most. It gave me community service experience that helped me get a job.
Thank you, Ms. Hinzman, for introducing me to my major and showing me the true joy of going into a science field. I am currently at University of Central Missouri majoring in nursing. I enjoyed your class and I am so glad that I took it while I was in high school. It helped me a whole lot in the current nursing class and in my science classes. You're an amazing teacher and I just wanted to thank you. Your class gave me the jump start I needed to prepare myself for the future.
